SOFFI® Online Certificate Course

SOFFI® is an integrated approach to supporting oral feeding in preterm and in medically complex infants, both in the NICU and in the Early Intervention setting. The primary approach offered online provides the practitioner with evidence-based information regarding feeding development as well as assessment and intervention strategies. A free one-hour question and answer period is offered monthly for a period of time. After you complete the 12 webinars that are part of the course and pass the quizzes, you will receive a Certified SOFFI® Professional certificate. You should take the quiz after each module to make sure you have mastered the material.
OBJECTIVES
• Identify necessary components of infant development that indicate a readiness to begin and sustain oral feeding
• Discuss development of oral-motor skills
• Describe the interaction between medical and developmental level as they relate to feeding readiness and progression
• Identify infants who are not progressing in feeding skill development based on data
• List one way to involve the family in early, pre-feeding activities to support their infant’s later feeding skills
• Identify two of five distinct sucking patterns in infant feeding development using the BROSS approach terminology
• Identify the influence of two medical conditions on oral feeding success in infants
• Describe why external regulated pacing is the last intervention listed along the SOFFI® Algorithm
• List 3 things that affect flow rate in bottles

Course Information and Completion Requirements
Intended Audience: Speech Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Registered Dietitians, Special Education Teachers, Psychologists, Physical Therapists, Early Intervention Specialists, Nurses, Physicians, and Mental Health Workers. Note: Training conferences are available for professionals only.
Course Level: This course is an intermediate level course: Information is geared to practitioners with a general working knowledge of current practice trends and literature related to the subject matter. Focus is on increasing understanding and competent application of the subject matter. Prerequisite – None
Instructional method: Video and quiz offered on your member’s dashboard through www.feedingfundamentals.com, using the platform LearnDash. Monthly question and answer sessions are offered for a period of three months beginning at the time of purchase, and the participant will be sent details for joining these Q&As after registering.
Content Disclosure: This content will focus on the method SOFFI®: Supporting Oral Feeding in Fragile Infants and there will be limited or no information provided about similar products or services.
Access information: This video training was updated in July of 2022 and will be updated every three years. Course available for ASHA CEUs beginning October 1, 2022.

Requirements for this course must be completed within 6 months of purchase. The requirements for completion are as follows:
- View the video in its entirety and attest that the person registered is the person who is watching the course and requesting the certificate of completion
- Pass a 10-question multiple choice quiz with a score of 100% (may be taken repeatedly and the quiz is available as a handout to identify the questions) for each module. NOTE: There are twelve modules, each with its own 10-question quiz. The time to take the quizzes is included in the contact hours
- Complete the course evaluation

Presenter Information
Presented by: Dr. Erin Ross: Internationally recognized Infant Feeding Specialist, Speech Pathologist, and creator of SOFFI®, Supporting Oral Feeding in Fragile Infants in the NICU. She has worked in child development clinics, feeding clinics, and home settings, and currently continues her work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Dr. Ross has also authored book chapters on feeding development and pediatric feeding disorders.
